The Way
When I let go of what I am, I become what I might be.
He who regards all things as one is a companion of nature.
Let everything be allowed to do what it naturally does.
The flow of the Tao is unstoppable. Tao, translated into English means "path” or "way." It refers to the power that envelopes, surrounds and flows through all things, living and non-living. The symbol represents the balance of opposites in the universe. When they are equally present, there is calm. When one is more evident than the other, we experience disharmony and chaos.
There exists in nature mysteriously driven operatives clearly beyond our abilities to control or change -- the movement of the seas, the rotation of the planets.
Among these unmaneuverable energies dwell aspects of nature, both human and otherwise, that cannot be altered. It is most helpful to recognize the importance of letting them run their course. For should we attempt to divert these aspects, the results can be harmful on two different levels.
On one plane we waste our time trying to redirect the unalterable and, on another, we disturb the natural flow of things which can only lead to frustration, despair and destruction. It always proves beneficial to live in a manner that is both compatible and in accordance with nature.
By no means am I suggesting we sit back and allow things to happen without concern for the outcome. Instead, I propose evaluating each situation and when circumstance allow, and when we are sure our response will not adversely disturb the natural course of things, acting and reacting appropriately will hopefully accomplish an end result that benefits the greater good.
